In Reply to: RE: HiFiMan has a brand new model, the HE-560... posted by genungo on May 07, 2014 at 11:51:45
I looked at the 560, but I will take the weight and metal construction over the plastic bits
and the price I got my 500 for new was still 350.00 less then the 560,
I would lay a bet out that the 560 is mainly a nuance difference in sound, I also think this was HiFi Mans answer to all the negativity about the weight more than an attempt to improve on sound
If I were to look at more planers in the HiFi line it would be the HE-6
Follow Ups:
The weightier construction of the HE-500 could possibly influence it's sonic character, for the better perhaps. The HE-560s are said to be a "clean slate" design in a number of ways.Of course, not everyone is bothered by the weight of the heavier HiFiMan models. That aspect of the HE-500s can seem shocking at first though, especially if you are used to wearing much lighter headphones.

Most of the reviews on heaad fi are decent and state trade offs in sound as opposed to being a flat out better set of phones. When compared to the HE-6 the 6 comes out on top except for the power needed to drive them
I could not justify the incremental supposed improvements for the 350 price increase over the 500
I want to attend the capital audio fest this year they are supposed to have a headphone room that will allow me to audition some of the supposed higher end phones and amps, Currently I have to buy and try :(
The HifiMan product line seems to evolve pretty quickly (unlike AKG, who has taken years to re-introduce a true "high-end flagship" model (remember the old K1000?) such as the new K812 Pro. That show should be interesting.
