Does anyone here have either the Cambridge Soundworks model 88 or 88CD?
I've have the original 88 (the "clockless radio") and recently found the later 88CD with the cd player and the clock.
Question... Were there different variations of the 88CD? an online manual says the 3.5mm jack is for a mixer input or something... Sounded like it was a constant level input. So the volume wouldn't work, but you could control that with an iPad...
My version just says AM antenna input and the manual has no mention of a mixer input. I tried it... There was only faint sound coming from it.
I wanted to plug my mpow streambot into the 3.5mm jack like I can with my original model 88. Looks more tidy than using a splitter cable.
And what's with removing the internal AM antenna on the 88cd? Also kind of a step backwards?
Follow Ups:
I own an 88-CD. Mine did not come w/ a manual nor remote.
Cambridge Soundworks has long-stopped customer service / repairs to this model. I would like to find someone to "fix" the cd player side of my Radio.
As far as the cd player, mine didn't play either. The guy at the second hand store cleaned the laser lens with an isopropyl alcohol wipe (and he wasn't shy about really rubbing the lens and assembly). The cd player started tracking CDs again. I was surprised it worked, but the unit was pretty dusty.
Make sure the cd is clean too... This is not some high end transport or anything.
I'd you need to replace the assembly, there's a video of some dude fixing a broken cd door... Looks like the entire assembly just slides out.
I don't really use the cd player... The fun thing is to connect a $12 mpow streambot to the aux in and use your tablet or phone. I have a Spotify premium account and it's not only convenient and fun, but sounds surprisingly good. Especially after tweaking the Spotify eq.
I'll tell you this much, even with my main stereo out of service (one McIntosh MC60 has a bad input cap), the model 88, loaded on the corner of our living room still managed to piss off our upstairs neighbor. The thing Bumps! Lol!
See ya
