Counterfeits mainly are sold via eBay, Craig's List, Amazon, Alibaba.
When you buy a USA brand name from a seller in Hong Kong for a 'big discount', YOU KNOW damn well it is a fake.
Also sellers on eBay selling 'new' stuff who are not dealers.
I would think anyone buying knows what they are buying.
If they do not, then I guess 'A sucker is born every minute' is still true.
The number one item sold to audiophiles which are 'fake' are cables.
No question plenty of fake AudioQuest, Cardas and Kimber cables have been sold. Most of those makers how send a certificate with a serial number along with the cable.
(In a thread one person thought a 'drop ship' from the manufacture was a 'cop-out' vs carrying them in store. However, with a direct from manufacturer, You KNOW it is a real product, and not a fake!! absolutely)
Then cable parts, like high end AC connectors seem to be a current worry.
For main equipment, I have never heard of fake Bryston amps, or fake Audio Research or Conrad Johnson preamps.. Or fake Magnepans.. Or any other large and complex products.
Follow Ups:
Alibaba should be banned.
Perhaps Mostly Cheapskates looking for a Deal at whatever costs.
Frankly Who cares about Crap Audio weenie bits. Hospital Pharmacies are discovering.. Fake Pharmaceuticals in their Inventory.
Think on that for a moment
