I am feeling more positive and hopeful recently due to both my wife's and forum members' reassurance and encouragement.
My ENT has referred me to another specialist for a hearing and balance test to evaluate if any auditory nerve damage is present. This test lasts approximately 2 1/2 hours. The test provider has completed her clinical fellowship with the House Ear Institute in Los Angeles which some of you have recommended.
The results will be forwarded back to my ENT with whom I am scheduled for a follow-up review and evaluation.
Again, thank you all for your time, concern and thoughtful advice.

... House13, that you had shingles in your ears on BOTH SIDES? If this is so I do surely realize why you put the 13 in your AA name! If not than how in the hell would it effect both ears? I'm giving 96 to 4 odds it was unilateral. Really almost 100% sure since you strongly implied it was unilateral. Am I missing something? I'll give 99 to 1 odds that you are getting older. T456

The ENT did not specifically state both ears but implied it since nothing at all was mentioned about normal ageing as a cause. It seems unlikely to me as well that a virus could affect both ears almost identically.
I am scheduled for a follow-up review, evaluation and prognosis on Feb.1. I am bringing my wife with me. Between the two of us we should come up with the right questions. However, I am skeptical he will will have all the right answers.
Both the posted graphs are averages. T456

There are a bunch of graphs out there. Between the two graphs it doesn't look like you are so far out of the norm, IME. Hopefully this is correct and there is no specific pathology. If I'm missing something please let us know. Looking at these graphs I had no idea the roll off with age was so marked. T456

The graphs you provided appear to show that my results are not that atypical for my age.
Old age, sorry House13. Nothing I can do about it, much to my chagrin. Hope my diagnosis is correct. Enjoy your music. Dr. Tweaker456
Bottom line: We do the best we can with what we have.
I am reminded of Elizabeth, who despite being deaf in one ear, enjoyed her system as much, if not more, than anyone else on this forum. I still miss her input.
A lot of idiots posting here. wait until you need surgery.
"A lot of idiots posting here." fStein" I fully agree. I clearly qualified my statement and there was no talk about the need for surgery. T456

Bullshit, I saw no links to any dot govs or even dot edus.

Triple hi C is 2092 cps so I don't see any big worry at this point. Why you would even think about not enjoying listening to music is not understandable to me. If you weren't told not to listen and if there is no reason to think you will go deaf from a disease then you should relax. Just my two cents. Hope it is not progressive too much beyond this point. Your point is well taken. However, part of what we pay for in these very high resolution systems is the refinement, the differentiation of the higher order harmonics.
Ironically, I did feel much better not knowing I had any deficiencies. Had I known at the time, I certainly would not have spent all that money I did last year on equipment replacement. Although, as I previously stated in the other related thread, I easily detected the changes I paid for.
Given what I was told medically, I should not have been able to notice any differences in the system changes. This is all quite confounding!

This in some ways is all that matters.....no? Enjoy listening to music in the New Year, no matter what your results end up being! :)
" Given what I was told medically, I should not have been able to notice any differences in the system changes. This is all quite confounding! House13" IMO this statement is likely incorrect and of little or no utility, especially if you did notice a difference and have a reasonable certainty that you did. Maybe you should listen to a 1500hz signal to get a sense of how high it is. Don't forget, there are lots of harmonics below 2000hz. Harmonics aren't everything. There is all the other stuff, imaging, clarity, pace, musicality... What's the big deal about a few lost harmonics? You want to be 18 again? Well I must say, I can't blame you. T456 Edit: Well it looks like fundamentals do go way higher than 2000. Still no reason to stop listening to a high end system.

don't fret.also realize Doctors are con artists as well.

There appears to be much educated guessing in many diagnoses. Tests provide results but not solutions unfortunately.
Incidentally, did you read my post for you in the earlier thread related to this one about Gallo Acoustics ownership change?
yes, very interesting news.
he fell into PTSD from the Docs
I went to ENT, they are hearing aid salesman, nothing more.
My docs do tests because they can and I have good insurance, not needed at all and I feel sicker after taking their crap meds.
I have ED and psychosis from meds, who needs that really?
The medical field is an industry made for profit.
He was happy until he got tested, why even bother going back? fuck them.
