I have a 1956 Zenith y825 (8 tube radio) that I use daily. This is my work radio. Currently I use it with an ECHO Dot via Bluetooth to a Bluetooth receiver plugged into the phono jack as it acts as a mono amplifier.
Here is my question:
With dual Zenith y825 and running my ECHO Dot through a 3.5mm to RCA stereo connections - one to each y825 mono jack, will it effectively (albeit poorly) work as stereo sound. It seems that it would work in a weirdly logical way.
Follow Ups:
No, you'll have mono sound thru each speaker. You will not have stereo sound.BTW, there's a Zenith Y825 on Amazon if you need another one. ;-)

Color me confused - so bear with me.
If I am taking a stereo signal over the two channel 3.5 mm connection to the Dot - and sending it to two RCA - left and right channels and then plugging left channel into one Y825 and the right channel into another Y825 why would I not have a true left channel and right channel stereo system.
Are the Y825's not acting as monoblock amplifiers and separate speaker speaker systems. Would I not have two independent audio signal channels. The radios would only play what they are fed. The source being stereo and each Y825 (or other similar style tube radios) acting as one of the individual channels.
If I am missing some obvious glaring error I would like to know cause this is itching my brain now, because logic is telling me it would work.
My bad, I assumed the Zenith Y825 was a mono radio. Is it in fact FM Stereo with access to two channels on the output?

-No Abe, the Y825 is not a FM stereo radio, it does however have an FM band. It also has a single RCA input jack on the rear for an outside source, with a phono/radio switch.
This was the original poster's question: "With dual Zenith y825 and running my ECHO Dot through a 3.5mm to RCA stereo connections - one to each y825 mono jack, will it effectively (albeit poorly) work as stereo sound. It seems that it would work in a weirdly logical way."
-Dual Zenith Y825's. With 2 separate radios and the Dot feeding one channel to each amp, he would have stereo with each channel having it's own volume control. An ipod, cd player or anything else would work too.
I get it now. His setup will be stereo, but NOT if he plays the radio(s) FM receiver through it.
Right, he will be only using the amp section, like an integrated amp.
...when the thing is switched to "phono", radio circuits are bypassed and a high level audio signal is fed directly into the audio amp/output stage/speaker. In the phono mode it becomes essentially an amplified speaker with line level input....obviously mono. However, if the OP has two of these radios, he can feed the R signal from his BT device to one radio and the L signal to the other and voilą, stereo! The plan seems simple enough so I'm mildly surprised so many responders are having trouble understanding it.
One big caveat however: IIRC, this radio employes somewhat typical for the time line operated series string filaments and DC power supply complete with "death cap". Thus high potential for nasty ground loop hum if the plugs of the two radios aren't phased properly. Might also have relatively high voltage on the inputs that could zap a Bluetooth device right quick.
Yes, the radios would be dual mono block amplifiers with speakers, the dot using the 3.5mm to dual RCA's is the stereo source.

That is how I was thinking about it. Was playing my radio at the office and just sort of had that epiphany that it was really a monoblock amplifier in my current setup and two of them with properly split channels would make a quirky stereo system. If I ever get another y825 crossing my path I may give it a try for fun.
I have another couple of tube radios that I have rebuilt that have phono inputs but they would not make a matching pair. But they do give me more options if I happen to find one of their mates.
Good collector item. They will always be valuable and if they work so much the better. My guess is that it is monaural, which was quite common back then, probably before stereo, too. No, you will never get stereo out of one of those sets, but you should be able to plug in a stereo headset and get dual-mono very easily.
You would just have 2mono signals.
Look up FM STERO.
I think he means to stream stereo through his Echo Dot via a bluetooth receiver then stereo jack split to left and right channels, each going into one of two of his mono radio phono inputs. Albeit the phone input not exactly the best set-up. In any event, he is just using both Radios as mono blocks.
Cheers!

I think the Dot/bluetooth is acting as a red herring in my question. It is just what I have as source in my office.
The real question is are two y825 or similar radios that act as amplifiers for a phono system capable of being used as monoblock amplifiers and speaker systems to create stereo sound.
Ahhh. The answer would be "yes"!(Edit) if going with an actual turntable, you may want to look at impedance matching and millivolt input recommended. If not a turntable, careful not to use a source at full output to start with in case of overload. Especially going into a phono jack. Maybe someone else is more familiar with the model radio you have. I'll try and find out more when I get a chance.
Cheers!

I appreciate it, but it is not an actual project.
I am quite happy with my old radio just using my cheap Bluetooth receiver as it is just a low volume background music while I work.
I was just interested in the theoretical possibility. If I happen to come across a matching radio in the wild (I have bought and rebuilt many old radios from auctions and yard sales)I might give it a try as a lark.
This is just one of those questions that came up while I was plugging in my little mini rechargeable Bluetooth receiver I use for radios like this that made my brain itch.
I shall call off the hounds then!
Welcome to the Asylum, and hope you enjoy your stay.
Cheers!
