Program Director at KCSM in San Mateo, one of the best (and few) radio stations devoted to jazz.
About as non profit as non profit gets.
CB Jr. allowed a friend and myself to have a program there, nurtured us, saw through our... amateur
ways... to the heart of the show that lay within and was SO NICE and so cool and SO professional.
Soon thereafter he left KCSM to be a "smooth" jazz DJ at a famous, popular SJ station (maybe the one you refer to).
There was a conflict of interest and he had a family to support and the $$$ called.
His heart and soul was at KCSM; the dough at the SJ station.
We did our show, it was well received and successful. We SURE did miss working with him, his vision, his solidness,
his presence, we never for a moment questioned his career path or choice.
Yeah, there are many styles of jazz out there, a rainbow of it, but we know which style lands at the pot of gold.

Follow Ups:
I'm a KCSM supporter. What / when was your show?
Don't keep up with that sort of thing.
Our show was "Jazzlines" a daily birthday tribute to whichever jazz musician
was born that day. Short bio/appropriate background music. Co-written/produced
with Ed Silver, read by Alicia Clancy.
Fun stuff and times!
Was 1990/'91 I think. Met and hung with the WONDERFUL Tee Carson, Pat Henry
and some of the other cool Jazz DJs at that time.
There's a link to what CB JR. is doing these days below.

Anyway, a different station.
Still, we are very fortunate in San Diego to have KSDS 88.3 (San Diego City College) as an all jazz and blues station. They don't play light jazz, except for an occasional rare mistake. ;^)
Years ago I looked into becoming one of their volunteer DJs but they required completion of a broadcasting course. Unfortunately that was difficult to get into (high demand) and I ended up taking History of Broadcasting and Broadcast News Reporting which included on-air time. But I never became qualified to spin records and became busy with other things.
Anyone interested in checking them out just go to the link.
