I agree. We should have a jazz forum. Who says there is not enough interest?
Rich
THIS is the Jazz forum! You just made it so! The most popular place on AA!!
What more could you possibly want?

love McCoy Tyner.
As it happens, I'm a little embarrassed that a local FM station touts themselves as being the pioneer "smooth jazz" station in the country. I don't care whether that is true or not but smooth jazz is just boring for me. And yet it may now be more popular that traditional (not meaning the '20s) or straight ahead jazz. So I'm likely in the minority among minorities. Yes, overall there are few jazz fans compared to those preferring any/all the other musical categories now performed.
Still, anytime a jazz artist or album is brought up it seems to attract a reasonable discussion, at least on Vinyl Asylum. And just ask for a recommendation. You'll be surprised by the number and variety or answers other Inmates offer.

"... only a very few individuals understand as yet that personal salvation is a contradiction in terms."
Program Director at KCSM in San Mateo, one of the best (and few) radio stations devoted to jazz.
About as non profit as non profit gets.
CB Jr. allowed a friend and myself to have a program there, nurtured us, saw through our... amateur
ways... to the heart of the show that lay within and was SO NICE and so cool and SO professional.
Soon thereafter he left KCSM to be a "smooth" jazz DJ at a famous, popular SJ station (maybe the one you refer to).
There was a conflict of interest and he had a family to support and the $$$ called.
His heart and soul was at KCSM; the dough at the SJ station.
We did our show, it was well received and successful. We SURE did miss working with him, his vision, his solidness,
his presence, we never for a moment questioned his career path or choice.
Yeah, there are many styles of jazz out there, a rainbow of it, but we know which style lands at the pot of gold.

I'm a KCSM supporter. What / when was your show?
Don't keep up with that sort of thing.
Our show was "Jazzlines" a daily birthday tribute to whichever jazz musician
was born that day. Short bio/appropriate background music. Co-written/produced
with Ed Silver, read by Alicia Clancy.
Fun stuff and times!
Was 1990/'91 I think. Met and hung with the WONDERFUL Tee Carson, Pat Henry
and some of the other cool Jazz DJs at that time.
There's a link to what CB JR. is doing these days below.

Anyway, a different station.
Still, we are very fortunate in San Diego to have KSDS 88.3 (San Diego City College) as an all jazz and blues station. They don't play light jazz, except for an occasional rare mistake. ;^)
Years ago I looked into becoming one of their volunteer DJs but they required completion of a broadcasting course. Unfortunately that was difficult to get into (high demand) and I ended up taking History of Broadcasting and Broadcast News Reporting which included on-air time. But I never became qualified to spin records and became busy with other things.
Anyone interested in checking them out just go to the link.

you could have skipped down that page and seen a few Mose Allison posts/tunes/thoughts.
I think he was a jazz musician...

I found it! It's right next to the Hip-Hop, Classical, Ska, Grunge, Electronic, World, Classic Rock, Rap, Folk, Doo-Wop, Swing and You-Name-It forums. : )
I just met a young man of 35 in a random conversation and invited him to a local jazz event. He actually came, liked it and seems interested in my recommendations. He expressed what could be called mild shame about his lack on knowledge of jazz. So, I guess there is some hope out there. It is now being rated as the least popular music, based on sales I think. Look what's happened and is happening to the whole culture. I've invited many people to this jazz club and I think he is one of only two who came when I was there. The other one was a female jazz trumpet player who I saw on the street from France or Canada. This culture has turned deeply anti intellectual and extremely shallow. Taylor Swift is reported to have made 170 million this year. You see what we are up against. You can post on the music forum anytime you want. Happy Listening T456

Great idea, however, no enough interest. This goes for 'net wide as well.

Started Friday eventing with some McCoy.
I've heard Mr. Tyner play many times since the mid- 1970's. Great musician and a gentleman. Some of the best concerts I've ever attended were his 6 and 7 piece groups at places like The Night Club and the Bank, both in Akron OH.
It's easier to contribute than complain...

which (apart from seeming more organized) are usually more interesting, comprehensive
and... thoughtful. They also seem to develop longer, more conversational threads.
That either sez something about the genres OR the folk that pursue them.
Or both!

So tell me the cobwebs matter?
Perhaps. I am surprised there are several forums with no posts for months...
Maybe dump one of those to add Jazz.
Seems one used mainly for Classical, and one for Rock..
