I have a Cambridge Audio DACMagic and I'm interested in buying a cd player that has a Burr Brown 1791ADBR processor. Is this overkill or would they compliment each other?
Best Regards,

I doubt it would be worth the trouble.
Thanks ADHuri. The cd player has a USB input for my other media sources that input through the Cambridge. If the Burr Brown is adequate, then I may sell/swap the Cambridgeas I've got my eyes on a certain turntable
Regards,
If the Burr Brown's DAC specification is better than the Cambridge DAC Magic's DAC (Wolfson), then there could be a difference.
I have a NAD C 565BEE CD player that uses the same DAC as the Cambridge DAC Magic, no difference at all.
The rule of thumb in my opinion is, the external DAC's spec should be better than the in-built DAC of the CD player.
Regards,
Thank you smelly socks. I really like the cd player. Having both will give me an option for best sound per source material.
The DAC in the player is not used if you use an external DAC.
If you plan on alternating the DAC and CD player analog output..
Probably more sonic difference in other parts than just the 'chip'.
use the analog line out of the CD player, which would use his internal dac, and cable it into, say, input one of his amp/receiver.
Then use his digital out from the same CD player, cable to his dac, then cable to his input two of his amp/receiver.
Then use the input selector on his amp/receiver to compare.
I don't think one electronically "defeats" the other.
I've done this a few times over the years to compare internal vs external dacs.
Unless it's specific to the CD player model.
Cheers!
