I posted my wanting advice on getting more out of my system and I received a multitude of suggestions. Because my source is a computer, some suggested a USB cleaner like the Regen, others suggested a power cleaner, still, others suggested better cables, one person even suggested I add a woofer even though I listen to chamber music which doesn't need much bass, using balanced interconnects was also suggested, getting a tube preamp was suggested by several. I chose to upgrade my Dac from a Schiit Bifrost delta-sigma to a much more expensive Gungnir multi-bit, which I'm receiving tomorrow.
My current system is as follows:
Amp: W4S ST-500
DAC: Schiit Bifrost (not multibit) USB
Pre Amp: Passive TVC
Interconnects: Homebuilt Solid Silver Single Ended RCA
Speakers: Maggie 1.6s with crossover upgrade
Speaker cables: Homebuilt solid silver.
I also ordered two sets of balanced interconnects which I'll receive next week. If none of this works, I'm willing to get a Schiit tube amp which should come available sometime this month for only $699.
Anyway, this is my saga and I'll post what seems to work and what doesn't for those interested. I think a lot of audiophiles go through this and may be interested. Keep in mind that my system is built on a rather small budget, but I think I can improve on things to make my music more enjoyable to me. Keeping things the way they are now (at 90% efficiency) is not that bad.

Follow Ups:
I just had this for two days but there is a very noticeable improvement with the vocals in my system. For years I have been trying to improve the vocals by upgrading the caps in the crossover in my Maggies, using shielded interconnect, switching DACs and adding a power conditioner. I thought for sure the problem was with RFI. But behold, the Gungnir MB made a huge difference and I now gain great pleasure listening to choral music!

What ever you do, DO NOT turn your Gungnir MB off. All Schiit DACs are made to be left on 24/7 so they stay at their optimum operating temp according to their designer, Mike Moffet. I have a Yiggy & Ragg headphone system and a Vali 2 & Modi MB computer system. They sure make great Schiit.
Consider acoustic room treatments if you've not done so.
That's what is great about headphones. You do not need to treat the room. I did also go the last 10-20% when I changed all digital and interconnects to Wywires Platinum on mt Schiit Yiggy/Ragg/Oppo headphone system. Talk about your audio bliss!! Sounds almost ethereal through my Mr. Speaker Ether Flows

You are on the correct path- cabling- scruffy_
If/when you reach 100% you have reached Audio nirvana.
Keep me posted on your progress.
Sad to say.
... but I'll admit after upgrading from the Bifrost MG to the Gungnir MB, that most of the improvement is in the Bifrost upgrade, at least in a SE system.
If you go for the Schiit Freya, you can go Balanced. The Freya looks almost too good to be true: I'm sorely tempted myself.
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich ...
Let us know how it goes.
