Actually I don't watch TV or listen to the radio and I am pretty sure I know more about what is going to happen than those who do. In fact a few years ago a survey found Fox News viewers less informed than those who watched o news at all. My sources are worldwide and very diverse. For example people bitch about RT being Putin's mouthpiece, well that may be so but prove them wrong. Try it.
But I think the feeling better is also attributable to not being exposed to the professional voice. And the noding the anchors throw each other when they speak. And what's more, Ma has taken to closed caption, not just because of being hard of hearing, but because of the damn noise. Sound effects meant for a six channel system. Can't understand the dialog but when a car explodes the cops come. What's more people get their reality from fiction. They think cars explode easily and that is simply not true. They think you can shoot at the gas tank in a high speed chance and blow the car up. Try it sometime. Not that I have but I know something of engineering and a few other things. I'll throw a lit cigarette into a pail of gasoline, about a 10 % chance is catches on fire and ZERO chance of it blowing up. If there's an explosion is is due to the fumes in the air, not what's in the pail.
Also, I have personally known some people who made the news and they got that wrong. So in some cases I think that irritation in your head watching TV is because your brain is destroying enough of itself to process the illogical information. Remember the media went to court in the US to gain the right to outright lie with impunity. The courts in other countries don't seem to be so eager to bestow that on them. I wonder why... I know, socialised medicine, they don't want to pay for the painkillers as the viewers' brains destroy themselves so they can "believe".
But I am to the point of no radio, I DO have a tuner in the garage/Mancave but that is it. Time to make another CD for out there but I don't have decent heat and with winter coming it is not going to be used much. So there is no rush. (Yeah, put some Rush on the next one)
I can't stand the radio, I can't stand the new movies and TV shows. Media has abandoned me. Next time I decide I want to hear music it is likely to be older than me.
Enough ranting.
HA, I just thought of something. Remember on radio news they used to have the sound of a teletype or whatever in the background ? chig chig chig chig ?
Follow Ups:
RT has become much more subtle than it used to be. It's getting more and more difficult to tell it's a propaganda device. Propaganda at its best is very subtle.
I cannot tell what it is.
Funny thing is: if the Russians are so awful why do we depend on them for our space program?
I love the asymmetry of fakepolitic - how would the US react if Russia was to place some kind of defense force in Mexico? Yet, we have this cozy relationship with Ukraine that they find threatening. All the while we, and Europe, have nothing with which to force them to do anything. Oh, I forgot, the UK placed one hundred soldiers on the Polish border. That'll scare 'em!
It is crazy. More Eastasia against Oceania? Phony wars, phony conflicts?
I think Orwell was more right than he ever dreamed he was.
A book written as a warning has become a handbook.
Any war with Mexico or its Russion proxies would be over in a matter of days. Even with the element of surprise there is no real advantage to the US in conducting short wars.
"Funny thing is: if the Russians are so awful why do we depend on them for our space program?"Excellent question!
Discontinuing the space shuttle before having a replacement vehicle ready to go was one of Obama's biggest blunders. Our manned missions, the International Space Station and our astronauts currently on the ISS are totally screwed if the Russians decide to play hardball.

Not to mention tubes.
Rick,
Orwell wasn't trying to warn the future. The original title was 1948, the publisher balked, and we got 1984.
"I know, socialised medicine, they don't want to pay for the painkillers as the viewers' brains destroy themselves so they can "believe"." I must say JURB that is a fascinating theory. I quite like it. Gave up TV in 1999. I've been addicted to the news on the net to see if the sun hasn't novad yet. Good reminder. Radio has also been pretty much destroyed for two or three years. Intolerable. Happy listening. T456

I am also careful about what music I subject myself to, that can be toxic as well.
cheers!
