every stereo will be boomy in the bass if the speakers are that close to the front wall.

A killer system!
This was an impressive room, with good sound to boot.
It was. But I guess I always moderate my impressions by what's within my budget and preferences. It was big and bold and clean-sounding; but too much bass for the space (when I was there, the bass overloaded the room so much that the walls were rattling), and the volume levels were too high (not the fault of the system, obviously). But yeah, for those with hundreds of thousands to spend (rather than just thousands) and huge listening spaces, this would be the system to beat.
I agree about the bass--I think there were rooms that setups that sounded better, and I, personally, would not want to try to lift that Boulder amp!
OMG - that thing was the size of my Subaru!!!
