Of course we eliminated the transformer in our design; what I find appealing about the SITs is that they have the same soft clipping as a triode so as I see it they solve the endless tubes transistors debate.
Only thing is of course, the semiconductor industry doesn't want to make them. High end audio being what it is, we are teeny tiny compared to other industries.

VFETs are triodes and the curves of both look very similar as they should.
were the Yamaha and Sony V-Fet efforts of 30 years ago thought of as high-water marks? I recall much hope, and then exchanges of puzzled looks, no?

No they weren't. They were interesting a considered good but not great. But they didn't make the best use of VFETs, way too much negative feedback for one thing.
