This may be more for older audiophiles but let's give it a shot. If you could have a vintage system that is made up of memorable equipment that you no longer own, what would that list look like. The assumption is that you did not own that vintage equipment at the same time. Here is my shot at it.
Speakers -- B&W 802F
Power amp -- Yamaha B2
Pre Amp -- Luxman CL-35 III
T.T. -- Kenwood KD-500
Arm -- Pioneer (?) carbon fiber
Tuner -- Yamaha T-85 (still own - with mods)
Cartridge -- Ortofon 2M Black (cartridge and cables would be new.)

Back in the day (mid '70s ?) the local high end stereo store took a JBL Paragon speaker system in trade. It was assembled and hooked up in the listening room. Before I got a chance to hear it, it flashed through my mind that I would, no doubt, hear bright, over etched highs and middles along with excellent powerful bass. Boy, was I wrong. The mids and highs were quite good for the time but the bass was a total mess. Go figure.

I just posted a question on AK very similar to this one... I wanted to know what vintage system they would build with a 5 to 7K budget. The idea is to use the "value for money" vintage can bring to the table to build a system that performs at many times the investment and also looks good enough to use as a main system. At that budget I was hoping to be able to build an analog system (receiver, turntable and speakers) that would rival modern equivalents costing many times more. For example, the current VPI Prime or Technics SL turntables and a suitable cart would eat up most of that budget... and we still have to get an amp and speakers!

This is the vintage system I have now, KEF 103.2 speakers, Superphon SA-120 Signature amp, Superphon Revelation 2 preamp, Thorens TD-150 TT with Grace 707 tonearm and Grace F9E cart. The rest is a Yamaha T-1 tuner and a cheapo Yamaha CDS-300 CD player as I rarely play any CD's this a very musically satisfying setup for the small apt I live in. I have had all of these components at one time or another in the past
Stacked Quad 57s
Electrocompaniet 25 watt pure class A amp
Audio Research SP 3 A, then B and then C
Big huge Sony Direct Drive, don't remember the model number without looking it up.
Kieth Monks Tonearm
Decca London Gold Cartridge
Tandberg Real to Reel
Nakamichie 700
Marantz Model 20B FM tuner

Could it have been the Sony PS-X5 or PS-X7?
Speakers - Maggie SMGa (sold)
Amp - NAD 3020 (one in storage, one in my son's system)
TT - Dual CS 505 with matching Ortofon Cart. (sold)
CD palyer - Harmon Kardon HD7600 (broken and trashed - very sad to see it go)
Tuner - Nikko Gamma 1 (in storage - not sure if it works))
EQ - SAE 180 parametric (never owned, but lusted for)
Sub - Rythmic F15 (current equipment, would be great with the Maggies)
Well, none of my past systems had speakers close to the all round performance of my current ones so none there I'd long for. The Martin Logan CLS certainly had their fine points but lacked low end (I didn't have subs), upper mid body, and dynamics. I also had B&W 802s for awhile (influenced by a friend's 801s). Bought a dealer demo pair and discovered a faulty mid driver in one. B&W stood behind them and replaced it but I could never get satisfactory performance so sold them.
My belief is it all begins with the speaker system so I can't join in this game.
Lots of other components, now vintage, it might be fun to own again but no system combination I could name.

I never owned any of that at the same time. Well, perhaps the arm/cartridge combo.
Yes ..... your spot on.

I tried to pair the customer first with McIntosh - but the Yamaha or Apt Separates worked well too. Oracle was our flagship TT.
