"I believe it has to do with not pushing everything through your DAC, don't be afraid to use the analog outputs of your CD player , just bypass the DAC you'll find it more musical"
But what do you think is in your CD player that allows you even to use the analogue outputs? It couldn't be. . . a DAC. . . could it? ;-)
Follow Ups:
the laser makes a difference, even into an external DAC the playback situation with the hardware and the light makes a difference.
Have you compared SQ in your system between PC stored files played back through an external DAC and spinning burned discs? Can you use the DAC in one of your players with the PC as the digital source?
I've tried using my Pioneer universal player as a transport vs. my MacBook into the same DAC. No significant differences in my experiment. My current capability made it USB from computer vs. Coax or optical from player.
I think there is a quantum effect going on with the laser , and the observer and their state of mind. I don't have the scientific connections to prove it, but the very fact that the laser is in reality and the perceiver is also there it may have more an effect than having a pure digital design, meaning chips only.
Pass it over to me! I don't question the veracity of your experience, but my mind does boggle at the explanation you reach for here. There are quite a number of other variables that can seriously impact your comparison. I find that my DAC truly sounds terrific with a computer feeding it the CD rips, and not as good witha digital out from my player. I really suspect there are important wrinkles to work out in your set up.
I had visions of a DAC with a laser built into it for transmitting data, the Japanese businessmen wanted to pay tons of money to license my patent.
I did let them, and then suddenly everyone understood.
Think tube buffer. But laser enabled DAC instead ;)
