Has anyone out there taken the time to eliminate all sources of electrical impulse noise in their homes. (dimmers, etc.) Am AM BC band radio tuned to the low end works very well as a detector. I did that yesterday and made a few changes. My house is now bone quiet. Any thoughts ???

My stereo has not made any unwanted noises since I swapped all my cabling to balanced.
Before that the computer and my fridge produced some noise, in the case of my computer the screen induced a LOT of noise in my stereo.
These days I can't tell if it s switched on or not without looking.
For years I had that problem, only at night. After eliminating any source in my home that was causing it , I took an AM radio out to the street and it turned out that the timer bulb on the steet light was defective. The town replaced it and I never had the problem again!
Using an AM radio is a viable technique. I've done that to locate noise sources that interfered with my ham radios. The worst culprits are switching power supplies for computers, and certain brands of CFL light bulbs. My HVAC system generates noise, too, but I have not been able to do anything about that.
I used to use the AM radio in a car to know if a miss was caused by ignition or not. Down low in the band, off station you should hear a steady ZZZZZZZZZ that goes up in frequency with the RPM. You are not supposed to hear ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ ZZZ.
