That was one I could never get, from experience......
Another one is "bass slam"..... It's usually associated to dynamic compression mistaken for "powerful bass".

I came across PRaT quite often in the UK magazines. Was a different way of looking at things versus straight out watts per channel, distortion, etc.
Here's a link if anyone feels like reading (long). I think it's a good attempt at the explanation. I'm sure there're others.
Cheers!

"I know just enough to get into trouble. But not enough to get out of it."
Both terms were originated by Martin Colloms. As for "slam" Martin first used the term in reviewing the the biggest Krell amps during the 1980s. Given their huge current delivery into low impedences a description of them as dynamically compressed may need further thought. Not that they were to my taste.
If you don't get PRAT then fair enough. But it is a real factor as I discovered when trying to buy a new turntable last year. Its absence prevented me buying the $20k turntable/arm/cart I was auditioning.
. . . PRAT is just one of those addlepated British terms that's completely meaningless (in the context in which it's usually used) to the rest of the world! ;-)
Well me old china, if you Adam and Eve it you can pick up your plates and have a Jack Palance. Otherwise your King Lears may find it all well brown bread (IMO).
My stereo delivers the notes before the players play. How's that for timing!
