Or unless you're a crazy audiophile OR have a brain in your head.
They will have to pry my POTS line from my cold dead hands!
Although, they are more likely to pry the useless FIOS modem from the dead hands of someone who wasn't able to make a call during a hurricane once the power went out.
While the quality of the connection on a POTS line is almost always better than a cell line, the real advantage of a land line is that it isn't tied to the power lines. Even during a blackout your good ol' Ma Bell phone is ready to call those emergency workers!

...because the system is based on late 1800s technology before universal electrification occurred. So not only does it sound better, it's vastly more reliable. But it doesn't do FB or Pokemon go.
Our cable modem from which we get phone service (and cable TV + Internet) has a battery backup built-in. On top of that I have a UPS on it. No problemo calling emergency workers from our non POTS home phone if the power goes out.
If that fails I have a cellphone and my wife has a cellphone, and we have several USB battery pack chargers lying around the house in case we drain the cellphone batteries. If those fail, we have USB chargers in the cars that can be used to charge the cellphones.
If those fail, I have 3 HAM radio handie-talkies with extra batteries with good coverage into mountain top repeaters - that are also backed up by large batteries.
BTW, cellphone audio quality while not great has improved significantly in just the past few years. I use mine all the time for business calls, conference calls, etc as do my co-workers. We all sound lovely on our cellphones. ;-)
...Not really commenting on short term nuisance power loss.
During the great NE (US) blackout 2005 or thereabouts (caused by overloaded line in OH sagging into trees), cell and cable service in my area was gone after 24-36hrs. Cell system had used up battery backup and emergency generators ran out of fuel. Fuel wasn't easy to get at this point. Conventional landline was unaffected during the entire time.
Yes, cell sound quality has improved compared to the early days but is still poop compared to a land line w/quality phone.
I have a large enough solar panel to easily charge some batteries for cellphone or HAM radio comm gear, flashlight batteries, etc. But if we're out of power for 24+ hours I think we have bigger problems than just emergency communications.
I'm thinking no cool air conditioning or furnace heat, no TV, spoiled food from warm refrigerator, etc. We have a gas range plus the BBQ grill out back for cooking, if the food's not spoiled. Our fireplace is gas and can be ignited w/o mains power.
