Since meeting at a record store in 1992 music has always been a very important part of our lives. We dated for several months back then and with me being active duty Navy and her going to school abroad we lost touch for nearly twenty years. We reconnected a few years ago and got married on July 9th. Now why is this audio related?
Well we had a brief ceremony at Ravinia (A beautiful outdoor concert venue for you non Chicagoans) moments before a Duran Duran concert. Our vows contained song titles from our favorite artists (her's Depeche Mode, mine Judas Priest), and our hands were bound using a short run of Cardas speaker wire.
Our cake was decorated with the stylized rose from Depeche Mode's 'Violator' album and topped with a white chocolate razor blade representing Judas Priest's 'British Steel' LP.
Here's the most amazing part: Our invitations "borrowed" heavily from Duran Duran's 'Rio' album cover and unbeknownst to me my cousin is friend's with the band's PR director. He forwarded the invitation and the band loved it and what we were planning. They surprised us with a personalized card and a magnum of champagne!
We had over 80 guests who all bought lawn seats and joined us in the ceremony. The venue staff were very accommodating and total strangers who were also in attendance helped us with setup and cheered us on. The whole event turned out even better than I could've dreamed of.

Never say that. The world will always outdo itself. Like
I hope his plug fits her socket good. That he can live on her cooking. That any political differences don't cause a problem.
But never say you've seen it all or heard it all. The world has never failed to outdo itself.
BEST WEDDING EVER!! Great story, glad you found each other again. Looks like you had good weather and Ravinia is a really romantic place.
Nice Job Prisoners!
The best to you and your lovely bride
"The only obligation you have in life is to get through it, everything else is man made and bullshit".
You got married at Ravinia? Seriously? That is too cool.
How long do you think you'll stay married before it's time to move on?
I've been dating my first wife for over 30 years. That's the longest I've ever dated the same girl.
Congrats!!
:)
One last bit of self-aggrandizing..
Again, that is too awesome!
You know what? All these years, I've been racking my brain about an incident my college dorm did, some time in February or March 1991. Instead of a car wash, Heather, who was kind of a leader, suggested we do a "naked student body wash." On one of those typically warm weekends, she wanted to gather as many of us students as possible, and have them march into the first floor bathroom. There, a team of five would spray and wash the long line of students.
Yes, someone supplied a small boombox. One of the CDs played was Depeche Mode's Violator .
One of these days, I'm going to have to piece together the above event, and blog about it.
First, congratulations and I wish you the best. An audio/music themed wedding sounds so cool. My wife loves music as much as I do and has over the years developed a taste for good audio after listening to my system so much. It's always better when both have a taste for the same things.
Best regards, Ralph
Congratulations!
Ravinia is a very nice place and have seen many concerts there including iron butterfly in the way old days but moved out of HP last year.
Congrats on the over the top wedding! Cardas speaker wire? That's just too much! I would have probably gone with Mogami or DH Labs. ;-)
Just curious, were you ever at Great Lakes / Waukegan?. I was there in the early 1980's, then Orlando NTC.
Now defunct and even then it was so small that unless you were in the P-3 community you may not have ever heard of it.
Saw a B-1 take off one day while watching from up on the landfill. It shook the ground all the way up to where I was standing. Halfway down the runway it was airborne, then it was gone. Quite a sight.
I just noticed this nick was created on the 12th which was Wednesday.
Hmmm...

You would have gotten better resolution with Nordost wire. ;^)
Congratulations!!!!
(it was a fairly short leftover piece I had in the 'spare cables box' that we all have)
How about spare cables bin? :)
Congrats, sounds like a fun wedding.
Many years of good tunes, together!
Here's wishing you and your new wife a VERY rockin' (in a good way) marriage. :)
My wife and I got married back in '03, and we curated our own pop/rock playlist. We wouldn't have done it any other way. Though I was limited to only two Badfinger songs, much to my general chagrin (being a huuuuuuge Badfinger fan)!

Congrats - that sounds like an awesome wedding!

Congratulations. Sounds like it was worth waiting for.

...an audiophile had awesome music at his/her wedding. As for Judas Priest, back in summer '93, KJ (my future wife) and I formed a scratch doubles bowling team. We named ourselves "One Shot At Glory." We came in dead last (5-43, baby!), but KJ won girls' high scratch series.
Are you doing a wedding video? We were asked to pick two songs, so we went with Europe's "The Final Countdown" and Nelson's "(Can't Live Without Your) Love And Affection." All brides need to enter to the opening, "Here she comes, ooh just like an angel."

Our vows were constructed of our favorite band's song titles. Maybe I'll publish them here.
The bakery really outdid our expectations!
Delicious too!
In 1985, John and Andy Taylor formed Powerstation. LeBon and Rhodes did Arcadia.
