The NFS room had those "colored starlights" shining on the walls..... Problem is no music was played, the times I was in that room.
I had a chance to listen to Mike's Gunned 3.6R's. Mike is having an issue with his setup -- he loves his modded Citation II's, but they can't drive the Maggies to full output. So they were sounding kind of stressed when the orchestra was going full tilt. But during the quieter passages, wow -- it may have been the best sound I heard at the show: pure, natural, unstrained, and *real.* At one point, the ribbon tweeter was sounding so luscious and pure that I and the person next to me looked at one another -- nothing had to be said -- this is what audio is all about.
I happened into the NFS room early Friday and no one else was there except Mike. So I had the chance to talk with him about the Gunned 3.6s and Citation II.
When I entered the 3.6s were placed with tweeters outside and the SS amp driving them. So I ask about the set up and Mike explained the speakers sounded best that way at home and while he loved the H-K amp, it simply didn't have the power for much of the music he liked. After my comment saying I would have expected the 3.6s to sound better with tweeters inside, given their wide separation in that room, Mike surprised me by jumping up and switching the speakers. But first he connected the Citation amp. With the tweeters on the inside the image snapped into focus and the whole soundstage had better unity. The next song he played was a female vocal and the Citation had enough power to create something close to magic.
Unfortunately I didn't have time to go back later in the day but apparently the speakers remained in the revised placement.

Sounds like fun! You have my gratitude -- I could have spent the rest of the day there listening.
So it is a oasis in a land of staid and boring rooms.
Just wanted to use my limited Canadian.
Was that a room Enophile used to be associated with?
What ever happened to Enophile anyway, was he disappeared?
Anybody know?
