Bad news just keeps coming. Terminal brain cancer Gord Downie of the Tragically Hip. A Canadian airplay and tour staple up here. They are keeping positive by going on tour.

Thanks! for sharing.
Distressing and sad.
One of my favorite new bands. (well if you can call mid-late 80's new).
I have seen them live in the 90's, aughts, and last year in Buffalo NY on the 25th anniversary Fully Completely tour.
One of the best rock acts and front men Ever. In 90-91 caught them at a club in Providence Rhode Island with like 100 people. There were like 3 of us paying attention. I was right in front the whole time. Gordie was into the long hair and pajamas's and never stopped dancing or moving. Near the end we spontaneously hit a hard high five and I was HOOKED on these guys. I also saw them in Kamploops BC in the late 90's and that was like a Led Zep concert, huge lines, packed stadium, backup act, security. The difference between seeing them in Canada (having better taste apparently and the US was absurd. On the day for night tour caught them at the Ironhorse in Mass and there were probably a thousand or so folks and man what a great night. Fine fine shows all.
Still spin them frequently (have everything except the very new release) but the early stuff just cemented and absorbed me. Up to Here, Road Apples, Fully Completely, Day for Night, and In Violet Light is often in the pile.
Best to Gordie and the band.
Great pics! This is sad news indeed. They are the best show on wheels IMHO. Even if you don't particularly like the studio recordings, seeing them live is a thing to behold. Gord is so far out he's in. I've seen them circa 15 times in the last 25 yrs. They come to Cleve every tour, sometimes twice in the same tour. Seen em in Canada in big halls but my favorite shows were in small halls in the US with a few hundred people. Best live shows I've ever seen. Why they never took of in the rest of the US I'll never figure out. Love to get tickets for the limited summer tour but those will be a hard ticket to nab. Keep ur stick on the ice Gordie.
Yes, sad news.
It has often been said that when Downie is "on", the Tragically Hip are the best rock show on the planet. Some even say "ever", and I'm not talking Canadians, who wouldn't say such a thing... :)
Put me among them cfraser.
Lucky and blessed enough to have caught many of the big classic acts early. Tull, Mountain, Steppenwolf, Who, Humble Pie, Rolling Stones, ELP, etc, etc and saw Led Zeppelin front row center (12th row back-dead center) at Madison Square Garden in mid-70's.
I would put the Hip right with theses giants. They absolutely slayed Live and have the box set with show they did in Toronto which gives a great idea of how electric and awesome they are in concert.
Very sad and glad I have their music to cherish.
..."Up to Here" might be one of the best rock albums of all time.
Really sad to hear about Gordon.

I read about Gord this morning and it was like a kick in the gut. The Hip has been like the soundtrack to my life for the past 25 years. Every new album, Hip or solo, has wormed into my brain and heart and I can't believe it might all end very soon. Gord feels like family. Gord IS family.
Horrific news. One of the greatest Canadian bands ever. Truly sad.
