Art Farmer also played a lot of Flumpet.
Follow Ups:
Art Farmer invented the flumpet.
I was unaware of the flumpet as a separate instrument until I read your post. Thankss.
Freddie Hubbard occasionally used the flugelhorn. In the instances where he used it, the full (fat) sound of the flugelhorn seemed to better fit the composition than the shriller sounding trumpet. I rather prefer Freddie Hubbard's flugelhorn playing over his trumpet playing. He seemed to better stay within the bounds of the overall tonal constructs of the instrument. Just my opinion!

The instant I saw the pic which you posted, I thought it looked like a bent up Monette trumpet. Turns out, from your link, it IS a Dave Monnette product. Given that, and that it's gold-plated, I'd guess it's in the $10,000 to $15,000 range.
The late, great Maynard Ferguson played Holton horns for decades, but in his later years, he switched to Monette. Something about the endorsement offers. Don't know if he ever played a flumpet.
:)
It's also the word I use when I bash my toe late at night... "Flumpet!" :-)
