I'm the middleman here and I appreciate the info so far. My buddy is in Japan. The boat will be for a marine environment. Sailboat. He knows he has to find something that is designed for salt water air. Says it won't be out in the weather tho. I'll pass the ideas here along to him. I suggested he try a portable bluetooth until he thinks he has the right marine system dialed in. A portable would allow him to play tunes from his phone etc and then pack it out of the boat when he's not sailing or camping out so the system wouldn't be in the marine air all the time. But I know there's better sound available. Just not so quick, cheap or easy right away. Thanks !

A couple of bluetooth speakers may be just the ticket.
As for "not being outside" all I can tell you is I live across the street from the bay in Miami Beach and furniture that's technically "not outside" in my screened in Florida room will self-destruct in a few years because of the salt air unless it's marine grade, as in teak.
My outdoor furniture, if made of regular wood is good for two maybe 2.5 years before it rots out from the sun and salt air. It's a rough environment for anything and electronics especially.
Boats are expensive any way you cut it, but a boat in Japan? Oh man.

Big speakers and little amps blew my mind!
