Was the word AFFORDABLE ever said or implied? Stereo Times is a showcase and there's nothing wrong with that. Check out Audioholics if you are looking for some of the more "affordable" stuff.

With Audioholics, you get unbiased reviews with actual measured test results rather than subjective BS depending on the reviewer's mood.
...of audiophiles, do you think $100K turntables is the way to do it? Granted they deserve some face time, but it's like a Bugatti Veyron. Unless you're obscenely wealthy, what's the point?
There is no beer in food, but there is food in beer.
Sure, but must ALL hifi publications devote themselves to *spreading the word to a new generation of loudspeaker system enthusiasts* or else be considered irresponsible elitists? People already know how to shop at Best Buy and Amazon.Nowadays at least, Stereophile magazine seems to do a pretty good job of providing a glimpse of both affordable and unobtanium. I like to read about it all, not just the stuff that is "affordable".
Regardless, many of today's young hifi enthusiasts (and other people) are choosing to buy affordable headphone systems rather than affordable loudspeaker systems. And I believe that there are plenty of headphone system reviews being read in the here and now.

State of the art will always be expensive and never meant for the masses, there are plenty of affordable audio stuff available, unfortunately what most here seek from a bygone era is now considered exclusive and as such comes with a premium due to the low sales volume..
