It's a little pricey, but I believe that Paul and PS Audio's hearts are in the right place.
They work hard to advance all things audio wise. I own a P300, it was a brilliant concept. There Directstream dac is upgradable, they are working on a transport that will output DSD from Sacds to their dac through a HDMI cable.
While their gear isn't cheap it is real value. If I could afford it, I would buy both of their tranports [the current PMT and the new one] and a Directstream.
I think this music project is a labor of love, not just a profit maker. You may not care for the content, but a least recognize what they are trying to accomplish. And if you have suggestions for their next disc, I'm sure Paul would be happy to hear from you.
Follow Ups:
Why do audiophile makers and labels produce cd's with crap music??
What you consider crap, may be anothers favorites.
My tastes are quite eclectic. ECM I believe would be considered an audiophile label, I don't consider Charles Lloyd crap music, or Clifford Jordan's releases on Mapleshade to be crap. Acoustic Sounds has released some very good blues albums, that they happen to be well recorded, is just a bonus.
I find making blanket statements, is foolish. I also find some audiophiles need to crap on anything they don't like. I have never understood that. In the online magazine, Kessler felt the need to insult Gram Parsons music to make a case for the greatness of Michael Nesmith.
Diana Krall's first couple of releases are quite good, as are some of the Patricia Barber releases. I have the original releases, not the remastered versions.
To me rather than rip on music, why not make suggestions "if you like A, then check out B". Years ago I quit reading the music forums here, because of the negativity.
It's like the poster who felt the need to tell us he doesn't like folk music. Who cares, are we supposed to be impressed by his high brow tastes? I wasn't impressed.
What I am referring as audiophile labels are mostly music issued and produced by audio equipment manufacturers, ECM is definitely not an audiophile label,
The fact that Diana Krall and Patricia Barber made good sounding albulms
was just cd's that some audiophiles appreciated.
The best sounding music I have was never issued by audiophile labels
I actually do not own anything produced by an audiophile label but I do own some ECM's
If you were a "good" artist with "good" music you'd already be signed to a big non-audiophile label and wouldn't need (and wouldn't be permitted to record for) the mom & pop niche labels. So you get sitar music with chimes to test your tweeters. Would anyone actually own a Patricia Barber or Jacintha record if they were ordinary OJC transfers from the late '80s?
It's a production. Adding to the difficulties involved is the fact that people can't always agree on what "crappy music" is or is not.
The technical prowess of PS Audio has been demonstrated, we do have that.
Bingo,After seeing what some post up as their favorite albums , i have to agree, there is far more consensus in CLass-D vs the rest, or SS vs Toobs, or Analog vs Digital....
LOL :)PS: For the recordp and IMO, the music ( most) was fine and represents well, great addition to the library, effort Noted ...
