They can't be serious.
By the way, that same pic is on the cover of a fascinating 2016 wall calendar called 12 REEL TO REEL RECORDERS I just received from an eBay seller in ... Ukraine.
Worth checking out is "December" featuring a very old German deck with, I think, 14" reels. Accompanying it on the left is a blond in a bondage get-up and above, to left and right, is a ... zeppelin.

Should have known.
...or was there a photo that I missed?
I used to have one, in fact (briefly)-- albeit a battered example:
GX-4000D
Very late 1970s or maybe even early 1980s.
all the best,

Yeah, as soon as I saw the pic, it looked like an Akai! Then I thought it might be a Sony. But the "trademark" reel style had Akai written all over it. It's nice to read that you actually had that model! I had a predecessor - the Roberts 1719, my first tape deck, before Akai was marketed in the U.S. under the Akai name. That puppy was built like a tank and sounded great.WRT the Horsh House project, good luck, but I think they're about 30 years late to the party. Look at the prices and availability for used - in good condition - decks from Akai, Otari, Studer/Revox, Sony, Teac/Tascam, etc., and the handwriting is on the wall.

I suggest reading some of the piece I've written about the new R2R movement for PF.
On another topic, how many of the listed decks will play 15 ips/IEC eq? Not to mention, they are using 70s solid-state electronics in those prosumer machines. Are you still using your '70s receiver?

You make good points.
Yes, my Revox A77 Mk IV is both nostalgic and late-70's SS. (Still, it sounds great.) Our friend John Curl once (maybe more) said words to the effect 'keep the transport, but re-do the electronics'. Hence, the birth of better electronics in products like the Levinson 1" four track.
John , some years ago had posted on DIY what he did when modding the electronics , i will look to see if i still Have the schematics ..BTW i was never a fan of Akai stuff , (owned a few) Always thought they fell short compared to Teac , Sony, Revox, Technics , et al ...

Nope, that was the deck pictured in the OP's link. I was off by a decade. I kinda thought it looked like a vintage Akai -- not that there's any other kind of Akai deck :-)
