Right On! Lummy-
I would like a direct comparison on the Metallica CD, DCC CD & the newest SHM-CD versions. One other thing...Play it Loud!
Follow Ups:
I am in possession of two different SHM-CDs of Metallica's Master Of Puppets . You can't really see from this photo, but the disc with the label printing is UICY-20224. It has a (re)release date of 11/2/2011. This is the one I received today.
I have no information on the plain, un-labeled SHM-CD, whose catalog number is UICY-94664 [ignore the case, which is from the original Elektra redbook CD]. I would have publicly thanked the audiophile who sent me the latter, but s/he wishes to remain anonymous.
I will need more time, to compare the two SHM-CDs. But I can tell you that, as expected, both sport sonics which are cleaner, faster, more transparent than the cassette, original CD, gold CD, and vinyl counterparts. I know, I know, Stereotypical Audiophiles most likely will cling to the DCC gold CD, whose warm sonics have their own appeal. And, I have heard several pressings of the LP, whose rounded imaging makes it seem as though you are in the garage, as the mighty Metallica of yore perform for you and a few of your friends.
But clearly, the two SHM-CDs, freer from coloration and distortion, lend themselves to be played all the way through, without skipping.
More Later,
-Lummy The Loch Monster
It could be a cheap knock-off or promo?
The Metallica SHM-CDs with the label printed on the disc are from 2011.
The Metallica SHM-CDs with out a label are of more recent production. However, they do not come in a jewel case. Instead, they come in a crummy cardboard sleeve (pictured above), which gets easily damaged/destroyed.
Ah yes, the cardboard sleeve is part of the "mini LP" reissue movement.
