This research just came out that shows the influence of musical rhythm on brain rhythms. Thought some of you might find it of interest.
Follow Ups:
My brain loves to re-orchestrate those sticky rhythms. If a sticky rhythm tries to do it's thing for too long, my faculties of re-orchestration kick in to save the day.
I can't be truly happy as a catcher. Got to be a pitcher too.
Music heals a troubled mind.
But wait, it's gets even better.
The tempo, phrasing and melody of popular music is tied to - get this - even our breathing pattern.
Top composers have known this for decades, maybe even centuries.
Try this little experiment. It'll probably take more than one time to recognize what's going on. When you're not listening to any music, and just doing what you're doing, think of a song. If it fits your mood and breathing pattern, it'll stick in your head until you're sick and tired of it.
For example, I had "Stardust" going through my head for about three days. Now, I've got Joe Cocker's version of "Bye Bye Blackbird" going on.
:)
I've had a Frank Zappa tune lodged in my brain since the 60s.
Seems you have more than a few of us wondering what Zappa tune you have traveled so long and far with.
Care to share, or should we keep guessing?
1960s, hmm? Hopefully it's not Music For Bow And Bike. I find much of his later work far more pleasing.

16 minutes of prime time Zappa in 1963?
Crazy! Thanks for posting that!

I thought I posted a "you're welcome" post this morning. Maybe I never got past "preview message".
Ain't gettin' old fun?

...she squealed for a week to get him to go...
Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, Brown Shoes Don't Make It, my very first ear worm that still hasn't left. How funny is that?
It's always the quiet ones you have to watch for :-)
Maybe if you indulge in it once again, you'll be satiated, and thereby cured of the dreaded worm.
Keep in mind though that the "cure" might simply fully awake the drowsy dragon, and cause you to drop over the edge, into the abyss.
Your call.

Cool!
The brain responds to PRAT by tapping along!!
