WWI was the single biggest tragedy and disaster Australia has ever experienced. In WWI Australia's population was 5 million, yet we put 417,000, ~ 3.7%, into uniform.
To make it clearer that's just under 40% of all males between 18 and 44 enlisted, and all of them were volunteers!
332,000 went to war, with 215,000 casualties of which at least 62,000 were killed, some say <68,000. 65% casualties.
This very high impact was made possible by Britain supplying most of the administrative tail.
USA's pop'n ~ 92 million, a tremendous effort given the short time-frame and sent 2.061 million to the front, 2.2% of population with total casualties of 233,000, 11% casualties.
More stuff?
The first major battle your doughboys fought in was at Hamel when they fought within Australian units, over Black-Jack's objections. All Australian were by then part of the largest Corps in France, the Australian Corps. Hamel is seen as an almost perfect battle, planned by Monash.
The USA with a pop'n 92 million, made a tremendous effort given the short time frame and sent 2.061 million to the front, mostly conscripts but about.3M volunteers. ~ 2.2% of population with total casualties of 233,000, 11% casualties of those sent to the front.
Even those casualties could have been lower if the new tactics, developed on the Western Front, had been adopted by Pershing and on down. Further, that contribution would have been more effective.
The impact of US entry was mostly down to what Germany did in response, the Spring Offensive which was halted by the existing Allied forces.

Thank you so much to all the Veterans. My brother was drafted back in 1969....we never thought we would ever see him again. Tough to even think about those days.
I salute your brother and his sacrifice . I too was drafted in March 1969, in the USAF....
I was drafted on April's Fool's Day 69'. At first I thought it was a bad joke.
Nice story, but they got me a little sooner. Glad you made it back.
You all are Patriots!
