See the link below for the article. It doesn't say how he died just that he was in Spain; hopefully more information will come out later. He was not only a great talent but also a kind and generous gentleman.

...when I heard it on the news, I thought of you.
A regular at Jazzfest and a great pianist.
Thanks for posting.
It states he had a heart attack in his hotel following a performance, then died in an ambulance on the way to a hospital.
Recently I listened to all four sides of his "The Bright Mississippi" album and can certainly recommend that to anyone looking to experience Toussaint.

+1 on "Bright Mississippi". Great recording quality to boot.
of music!
New Orleans music of the past 50 years, ebbing into the general slipstream of funk and sweet soul
through his song writing and record producing. He contributed so much to it all, the type of subtle yet
extensive contribution that formed a basis for music that will live on and on.

I saw him at a story teller event at HOB and when the moderator asked him who his favorite song writer was he said Bob Dylan without missing a beat, a few months later I saw him at will call for a Dylan concert. One of the most interesting shows I have ever seen was him and Elvis Costello at Jazz Fest.

Thought the thing with EC was so-so.
AT, like Dylan, is one of the GREAT American Songwriters.
