Cool! I have a relative in "the woods" and a very good old friend in that nearby city. Many years ago I spent 3 days whitewater rafting on a couple of those rivers. Beautiful area, friendly people and great outdoor activities!
Follow Ups:
so primeval, so deeply rooted in DNA. Next trip, the Oregon coast, total immersion in splendor.
I couldn't have said it better -- so true! I too am near the ocean, on a really clear day I can see it if I hike to the top of the ridgeline behind our house. I love it, but there's something missing. We've got better weather, while you have the real magic.
I feel it is ALL magic. It surrounds us, even if we are not able/willing/equipped to know it, to see it , to feel it.
I once lived 6 miles from the ocean, the smell flowed in every AM with the fog
and still the smell of the redwoods on the property was as intoxicating...almost.
Now I am 200 beautiful miles thru rainbow canyons, along rocky rivers, a drive so sweet it should be outlawed...
I spent the last decade living in, building and busting the chops that I thought were retired in the Lassen area forest...Ran outa time...and patience and could not endure CA another moment.
Now on the Rogue River, now in Oregon.
Did I lose anything...naw..
An even more amazing lay of the land, a neater part of the Cascades, the longest mountain range in North America.
And Mrs LWR sings more...
Hello Neighbor! Listening to my wonderful 1.7's @ my small place in the woods a few miles from the Rogue river - heaven!
Cool. I'm very happy for you! I hope to find that peace someday. We too are retired but I feel most days it doesn't really feel like it but Mrs. TP likes it here.
We used to go camping in Big Sur and my favorite hike was up the Tan Bark Trail. A beautiful trail up the ridgeline next to a incredible crystal clear creek with redwoods, ferns, mosses. It was like being in the Keebler Forest. Unfortunately, it's all gone now. A fire a few years back took it all. I've never gone back, I want my memories preserved.
Thanks for sharing, your post brought back some happy hiking memories and reminds me of one of my bucket list items -- raft the Rogue!
