I kind of go with the Klipsch idea - you either have fidelity or you don't.
Classe doesn't make junk. Neither does Paradigm. While there are better stereo out there, you could spend 10x the amount, and while if spent smartly, will give you more detail, more ambience, etc, it still wouldn't be the best you could do.
ANd frankly, season tickets to the symphony is cheaper than all of it, and you know it won't get any better, full stop.
Having said all of that - glad you are enjoying!!

That's actually a good thing. We simply cannot have dishonest snobs running around on the loose.Even Klipsch sells different levels of "Fi". It might be true that all of it is has crossed the threshold of what is considered "Fi", but some of it is High(er) Fi and some of it is Low(er) Fi. I think I'm okay with all of that, because it is what naturally happens.
People naturally grasp for perfection when given the chance. And if some people will be grasping, other people will be selling. "Hifi" and "Midfi" and "Lowfi" exist as distinct terms mostly because they represent degrees of perfection, but also because they remind us that there are prices that must be paid.
The attention to detail, quality of stitching, etc.., on a very expensive handmade coat is definitely more "sublime" than that found on a cheap factory made one and, for some, the extra attention to detail and the stirring of sentiments related to pride of ownership (or even, "pride of custody") is quite important - almost as important as simply keeping warm, I'd say. Not to mention the fact that very talented artisans deserving of support and acclaim receive support and acclaim when their handmade coats are purchased at correspondingly premium prices.
Is a degree of snobbery always a bad thing? Maybe not, as long as it serves a good purpose.

Common error. Nothing wrong (morally, socially) with being an aesthete. Not the same as a snob though, a person who will reliably have multiple self-esteem issues and inflict them on all and sundry with abandon. In my experience, people who have good taste generally have a thirst for learning and enjoy sharing that, opportunity notwithstanding. Resources are not usually a social or theoretical impediment to this sharing and savouring interests, save for access to those experiences that only plentiful resources afford.

Do agree that you need to maintain honesty, but I don't think people think enough about being judgmental.
When I see the term "Mid Fi" in this case, it seems more judemental than a useful distinction.
When you post an article "This is mid fi and I"m loving it" and "If this mid fi or hi fi?" is really a symptom that things may have strayed a little far into the bad side of it. Just a thought.

And a welcome one. It's this commitment to fidelity and the performance that opened me up the world of
a) vintage audio, and
b) audio equipment from newer markets (in my case, China).
Essentially, I was thrown back on my heels and required to learn a bit more about what I wanted, use critical thinking to determine levels of value and engineering where I could, and then experiment. This has helped me make choices I didn't expect I would (like my last CD player) and enjoy them too, knowing how much I would need to spend (and can't) in traditional markets to equal or better their likely performance.
Very liberating.
