Yeah i've seen that video. That would be a creepy place to spend an hour in! I read Magico's listening room has an astonishing -24 db noise floor, doubtless getting close to an anechoic chamber.

At least according to the handy dandy table I found online.
(0 is supposed to be the threshhold of hearing, so presumably -9 or -24dB will be perceived as the same level of absolute silence).

I wouldn't put a lot of stock in the bedroom number. It really depends on who's in it and what they're doing. ;)
Also, I'll add "freight train horn at 3:30 am". That is one loud horn! It can be heard 3 miles away.
:)
It was presumed to be but, unfortunately, it was standardized at 1KHz and we have a lower threshold at 3-3.5KHz. Thus, our real threshold is closer to -10dB at those frequencies.
Interesting fact -- doesn't surprise me at all. Wonder if it varies person to person, too?

I doubt that number of -24dB.
Mostly because the Guinness Book of Records attested that the Orfield Lab anechoic chamber in Minneapolis is indeed the quietest place on Earth with a noise floor of -9.4dBA.
Anechoic chambers do not make good listening environments.
The accepted ideal RT60 time for listening is around 0.25 - 0.5 seconds (it does depend on room size). Far from anechoic but less reverberant than most living rooms.
Oh well I can't take credit for that one. It was Myles B Astor, PhD who made that claim... http://avshowroomsforums.com/showthread.php?208-I-Left-My-Speaker-in-San-Francisco

Not the sharpest tool in the box that Myles person by the sounds of it.
Doesn't seem to understand dB and the fact that it is a completely meaningless number on its own without any hint as to what it is referenced to.
