In Reply to: RE: Got my Mid-Fi setup going -- it's a LOT of fun posted by jedrider on October 15, 2015 at 18:28:09
I consider my system Hi-Fi but none of the components broke the bank and some out there have probably spent more on ICs and PCs than I have on my entire system. Sounds absolutely fantastic to me but some might rate it mid-Fi. I don't think cost is the determining factor and in fact is downright misleading.
Follow Ups:
Based on jedrider's comment and a look at his listed system, he owns another system that, in his opinion, has more fidelity.
"Amplifier: Anthem AMP-1 or Classe CAP-100 (Powered down most of the time, doesn't compare to tubes, need more loudspeakers, evidently!)
Preamplifier : Anthem Pre-1L
Speakers: Castle Stirling III floor standers"
So that makes the system he just put together "his" Mid-Fi system.
Just my 2 cents

Well, the Titans at $219 list are DEFINITELY in the MiFi category. So, I'm sort of arguing that, maybe, the integrated amplifier is where the bucks ought to be spent on a sort of 'budget' system.
I had other loudspeakers in their, too, at the same price and a bit more expensive. The Titans give a good mid-fi experience in my brief estimation of only a few days of listening now.
[Edit: They're a bit honky I am noticing. Yes, enough to make one want to upgrade. BUT, they certainly point one in the right direction, that if the music doesn't get your attention, something else is wrong.]
My CD source is not all that expensive either.

I'd leave the amp and the sources alone, and upgrade the speakers. That's where you'll see a big improvement, and the system will officially become hi-fi.
Maybe add a tuner as well.
:)
