Just to correct. The piece about Bybee was written by Jason Victor Serinus not John Marks. BTW, sound is indeed attenuated by the atmosphere (call it air)- see URL below.NB: we would all be grateful if URL links are posted into the box provided at the bottom of the "Post a Message" form. This then makes them clickable within the text posted.

Are audiophiles ever under "normal" circumstances ;-)?
On the other hand without the air attenuation would be 100%.
If you don't like the 'attenuation' in air/gas filled environment, ie losses incurred because air molecules are not fixed to each other, try living in an environment filled by solids.
Personally I don't have any preferences regarding the attenuation of sound in an atmosphere. But,yes indeed, I must say that being able to breathe enhances my enjoyment of music no end.
