Running low impedance headphones on a circuit designed for high impedance will load down the circuit resulting in more distortion for a given volume level. It will limit your total volume as the circuit cannot produce enough current to drive your headphones properly.

Which headphones are you using?
An impedance mismatch will affect damping and distortion levels.
Depending on the magnitude of the mismatch, this may not be noticeable.
Thanks Chip.... volume is fine with my present setup, but are you saying that the mismatch is causing distortion at all volume levels? And a more properly matched amp will reduce distortion?
It would make it distort sooner but it should be fine until then. It will also work harder and run hotter. If you run it where it sounds clean and you're happy then you're good. You should try a low Z unit with at least the same power to see what it could do. Maybe you listen at a point where the low Z unit would not add anything for you.

Thanks... I did go ahead and order a Burson HA 160.... I have a Bottlehead Crack, but wanted to see what a SS amp sounds like, and one made for low impedance phones. We'll see how it goes.
