I've reached a point where I don't think about upgrading, although I know I could, and I'm thankful I'm not tormented by that obsession.
I bought some records from a coworker yesterday and put them on while making some toast and eating it.
It was a Carpenters greatest hits - amazing. Solitaire and a couple other sappy 70s songs I love. Then I hooked up my iPhone - you'll kill me - and put on "last of the english roses" by Pete Doherty. Again, nothing seemed to be missing. Sublime. From and iPhone!!!!
I have Thiel 1.6, Pass Aleph 3, Spectral DMC 15, Mccormack phone pre, VPI HW 19 with Dynavector 20x. MIT throughout.
Just had to get this off my chest, and this is only place I know where people would understand!
Hope all are having a great weekend!

Nice!
Happy Listening!

I know those moments. I noticed that it was a Saturday at 7pm and I bet the system was already warmed up.
I notice when its not peak power time (After 9 on weekdays) and my system has been running for a few hours, its sounds at its best....
You have a great system
In my opinion; its Clean AC that gives the extra special sound.
Thanks! for sharing- robertd.
It's those Thiel speakers making the system sound so good!
:)
Could it be that the simpler the system is, the more *often* it sounds good? I am tempted to believe that the answer to this question is "yes".Has anyone else noticed this to be true?
Specifically, I'm being tempted to think that cables are one of our most potent enemies. The number and type of cables in use seems to be directly proportional to how often my system sounds really good, so I've been moving toward the use of simpler and more integrated solutions. Integrated amps and receivers, active speakers, headphone systems will continue to be on the horizon for me.
Also, using only one type of source component per system seems to sound better than using two or more different types. My vinyl rig seems to sound better when my digital rig has been removed from the system, and vice-versa. Once again, fewer cables and/or fewer components overall seems to be the ticket to best sound quality.
Mind you, I'm not suggesting that the very best sound always comes from the very simplest systems. I'm only thinking that fewer parts (especially fewer cables) enables more consistent results. Reducing or eliminating the use of annoying antennas.., er, "cables" in my system seems like as good place to start as any.

Very much agree. I got my first burst of genuinely high quality sound by just having a premium CD player directly driving a decent power amp, and finishing with reasonable bookshelf speakers; with the whole configuration carefully tweaked over quite some time - happened 30 years ago. Sloppy complexity introduces the potential for flaws which inject disturbing audible artifacts - 30 years since that experience, the majority of ambitious systems still sound awful a large part of the time, because of lack of attention to detail.

i looked in your system list and saw the hw19III but no arm listed, just the dv cart. please elucidate.

Don't remember off the top of my head. I bought the TT used with arm and cart, broke cantilever and replaced the cartridge.

I just love those days, usually nights, wheneverything aligns and the sound is sublime.
