Linda Ronstadt, Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, ...Who have I left out? (Many!)
What prompted this post is that I'm listening to Linda Ronstadt's "What's New" album. What a fine, fine, awesome singer and musician.
:)

Yes, but I think he lost count after reaching number 2012.
a fabulous songwriter and interpreter of said songs.

Galileo Galilei
LIkely, not many have heard her. Don't even remember how I stumbled across her.
Jo Stafford and Nancy Wilson.
Conceivably, those humongous black "wings" of mascara she wore provided the initial liftoff and the "big hair" could have helped to keep her afloat up there. She was mostly art, at least publicly. She would be almost unrecognizable "Au Naturel"/naked sans heels and makeup. I actually knew a girl like this, at one time. Most likely she's simply getting some shut-eye, though. RIP Amy, wherever you are.

in both the song writing and the performance. Too bad it was RUINED by some of the worst recorded/produced sound ever heard.

Axl Rose, Billy Idol and my all time favorite by far Eddie Vedder.

The Megaphone added to his greatness !
When I looked him up on the WWW (could not remember the names of some/most of his hits) he was described as being the "original" pop artist.
Also not certain about the descriptor "pop" as I don't think of the Beatles as being "Pop Artists", but then we have "Yesterday" as well many other Beatles tunes that would seem to fit the bill.
Maybe I'll Google "Pop Art", "Googie Architecture" et cetera to see how the experts define "Pop".
Pop music means anything popular. It covers a broad stroke. From rock to country ,etc, etc.

Ilaria Graziano, Ana Torroja, Michel Jonasz, Joan Baez, Norah Jones........
Harry Shearer played her Mic Soloed on a Paul McCartney Concert.
Wow!
Oops.
My mistake.
I only glanced at the title, and mistakenly thought your wrote "Singers that sound like great piles of poop."

Please do not throw your cigarette butts on the floor. The cockroaches are getting cancer.
Sinatra is the guy I almost hate to love but the evidence is there and I cannot deny it. He is to me the greatest male pop singer of all time and perhaps the greatest pop singer regardless of anatomy.
Karen Carpenter.

I heard The Carpenters back in the early 70s at Brown County Arena (yeah, round, domed, reverberant) in Green Bay (where the world's best football team is based - just fyi).Seriously, as a young musician/budding audio engineer, knowing that such facilities are a bear to play music in, I was totally surprised at how good the sound was - damn near like a record. That sound engineer had it figured out. I wish I knew who it was - I'd pick his brain.

with my mom cuz, I was too young to travel!
I always got the impression that both Karen and Richard Carpenter were very smart with regard to production, so they would likely have given a LOT of input to the engineer. I don't know whether that would have made the engineer's job easier or harder. :D
But the sound of Carpenter recordings has always amazed me. It's great that that carried over to live shows.

Imagine, just having to listen to singing.
Luther Vandross, Sade, Bill Withers, Shirley Horn, Ella Fitzgerald, Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian and about a zillion others...
Vanessa Thomas.
I heard her sing with the Doc Severinsen Big Band a couple years ago, and she was awesome. I've never heard "Mood Indigo" performed with such passion, skill and artistry. Y'all HAVE to check her out. Here's a taste.
:)
You guys are killin' me! How could I have left out so many greats! Ray Charles, Carly Simon, Roberta Flack, Aretha Franklin, Tony Bennett, ...
Here's a couple more: Shirley Bassey (of 007 theme song fame), Barry White.
:)
How would this guy go over in this day and age?
..."The Walrus of Love".
Lots of good singers named already. I'd add Stevie for sure.

Yeah, Lady Gaga.
I'm not particularly a fan of "Lady Gaga", but she is a very good entertainer with a fine voice.
Here's the record/plaque on the wall at The Village studios in Santa Monica.
:)
Tony seems to struggle a little but Lady Gaga is actually very good.
..
few better!

My god daughter was listening to a compilation CD I made which had a Clooney tune Although she has graduated from High School she was about 6 when she heard it. She turned to me asked to repeat the song and then exclaimed "wow! this girl is better than Brittany Spears !" I knew then that there was hope for her.
Also Skeeter Davis, of whom Zooey Deschanel ( not a bad pop singer herself, mthough certainly not among the greats) said, she could have been Dusty Springfield (with better management).
and I prefer Carly Simon's 'Torch' or Natalie Cole's 'Unforgettable'.
Ronstadt's penetrating voice seems to be more at least with her regular programming.
Many already mentioned, but here are a few more *pop* singers.
