hello
I have purchased a nice Adcom gtp-860 and the only problem I have found is that the volume only indicates that it has a +8 Db at full volume
the manual states it should have +18 DB
now I'm using this with 2 active speakers for a tv setup
Adcom doesn't seem to return emails as yet
any help would be great thank you mike

The manual says "can range from" the range you stated which to me implies not all the time. Try it in the stereo 2ch mode or if that doesn't do it change the channel balance to +10 for all the channels. One or the other of those should get you to +18.Are you having any problem getting enough volume at +8? Quiet passages in classical music or a movie don't count. Do the powered speakers have a level control? Good luck.

thank you the answer
+8 db is no where near enough and I have increased the right and left front speakers the 10 db not enough
been using a Audio Source Pre Amp Tuner Two and the sound level is twice as high but the left channel is giving me problems
I saw this Adcom 860 cheap and said what the hell, now I think it was a mistake
oh well live and learn it sound good but not enough horse power
Crap, sorry to hear that. Should be pretty easy to resell though. Nice looking with a lot of features. Are you going to repair the AS or look for something new? Are the powered speakers balanced, unbalanced or both?

the audio source might have to get repaired so unknown at this time on what will happen to it
the speakers are Behringer Truth b2031a
http://www.behringer.com/EN/Products/B2031A.aspx
they are nice speaker, they not jbl L200's which I have 2 pair but I was able to mount on the walls with tv stands. they swivel there out of the way, I can spin them around to adjust the speakers which I have done to get all that I can from them
it's just a tv set up and all I need is a pre amp to change sources and have a good volume control, also that is remote controlled
what I was hoping is that the volume control when to +18 db and I could get another 10 db form the balance adjustment but I think it's +8 db from the volume and +10 db from the balance
and what is all the - db used for, what do you need -55 db
I what volume not silence
thank for all your input it helped me understand the Adcom better
mike
Have you gone through the setup? The level on each channel can be pre-set, and that could give you the low output levels. The user manual is at hifi-manuals.com.

Adcom has the manual too. That's what we were talking about. Adcom calls it channel balance in setup.

I printed the manual and have read thru it
I know I could hook it up to a tv thru video out but from the manual I don't think I would find anything new
the manual states the volume control doesn't have a start or end position and I have no idea what that means nor does it state how to adjust the starting and ending position
as of now it ranges from -55 db to +8 db
as of now I can live with the lower then what sound level and keep searching for and or stumble on the answer or look for another preamp that is more straight forward with a simple twist the volume knob and I get more sound function
the Audio Control unit that I have been using has been great till the left channel problem that comes and going pop up, just push the button volume goes up volume go down
maybe i'll hook it to the tv video and see whats there
just been looking for someone to slap me up the side of the head and say you idiot do this
take care mike
