You should try to get good sound yourself sometime in a strange room, that may have bad dimensions, low voltage, reverberant walls and all in one day of setup. It can't always be done.
Follow Ups:
...sound at the shows always improves daily with the last day being best.
I remember a CAS exhibitor, that on the first day he was blasting what appeared to be noise to me. The second day was much better. The third day, he was acknowledged to have the best sound at the show. He played it loud and everybody enjoyed the sound, even the neighboring exhibitors.
Lesson I drew, was be happy with my tube amps because, at least, I can shut them off after a listening session, rather than a Class A amp that requires an entire day to warm up!
