Is it acceptable to ask a pricing question on an ad one has posted in the trader? I am wondering whether I asked too much and the item I am selling was not manufactured in huge numbers, so it's hard to find lots of old ads on the web.

No. While your intentions seem pure, our experience is that if we let one go on, it opens the floodgates. Sorry.
Fax mentis incendium gloria cultum, et cetera, et cetera...
Memo bis punitor delicatum! It's all there, black and white,
clear as crystal! Blah, blah, and so on and so forth ...
I presume your pricing question is about an audio related item posted in the trader. So why not ask your question? You might find some expertise here that can help guide you in your pricing. Good luck!
what is the item in question?
I would say for a 'rare item, start the price high. If no one seems interested, then in a week or two lower the price.
When you significantly change the ad, it goes back to the top of that area listing. Also, realize stuff sells slower here than like on Audiogon. give it some time..
And rare stuff has a lot less folks looking for that item too. So if you have it listed for a few months.. do not give up hope.
