I no longer play or listen directly from my new CDs. I first 'rip' them to my music server Library and play them from the
computer + DAC.
Mac Mini > Audirvana Plus Player > Ayre QB-9 DSD DAC > Ayre AX-7e Integrated - [ iPad Remote Control ]
Many of those albums eventually make their way to the iPod or iPhone for playback in the car audio system. My wife's SUV
has an iPod Classic that's loaded up with thousands of uncompressed music files. I use my iPhone or my iPod Touch in my car.
Music stored on the iPhone playing through my car infotainment system
Streaming music in the car from my Amazon music library "in the cloud"
Streaming music in the car from my Pandora account
iPhone secured under the armrest. Audio sent to car infotainment system digitally through the Apple Lighting connector.
This bypasses the iPhone's analog output stage AND the iPhone's DAC. The car audio system DAC is used instead.

What model/year BMW is that? Is the 135 gone? My 2011 idrive will not display that much content.

I loved the basic 135i but sold it... over 330HP to the rear wheels after Dinan Stage 2 software and performance exhaust.
The current 2013 335i xDrive is tame in comparison but more practical which is my wife's preference. I agree, it's still fun but more practical around town and on long trips.
We have the technology package, iPhone Integration, and BMW Apps . I think it's the iPhone Integration and BMW Apps package that enables several features. In addition to the heads-up display in the windshield (technology package) and navigation system, I can send GPS info to the car from Google Maps at home. This allows us to plan a route from home and have all the points ready to navigate to in the car GPS. In addition to managing music sources, news, local weather, stock prices, traffic, gas prices, and text messages can display on the nav screen. And of course there's the ability to flash the headlights or beep the horn from the iPhone or lock/unlock the car remotely.
I wouldn't mind a used stripped down basic M3 4-door someday. ;-)
