Hi
Here is a good friend and co-worker Doug Jones presenting on Dick Heyser, a man who developed the TEF machine and who's writing was key to my interest in time as it relates to loudspeakers.
Best,

Thanks for this link. It is too bad that Dick Heyser did not live long enough to finish his work because it seems clear enough that he was so advanced that no one has come forward to pick up on what he was thinking.
He was always thinking about sound. Among professionals who knew that there *must* be a way to measure a sound's time/level characteristics (many people already knew that speakers "ring" and rooms resonate), he was the guy who figured out how to do it.
In reply to your comment about others picking up the ball and moving it down the field, check out Malcolm Dunn's presentation at AES October 2014, which describes a system for measuring level versus direction. Almost by accident, I decided to attend the presentation.

Richard C. Heyser is one of my audio heroes. The man was brilliant. I heard him speak at an AES convention sometime in the 1975 - 1982 timeframe, and had an opportunity to meet him for a minute or two. Very nice guy. It's sad that his life was cut short while he was still in his prime.
He was a brilliant man, your lucky to have met him. I met him once at a dinner but hardly said a word, listening was all i could muster but there are so many questions i would ask now if i could. If any tool changed my life it was his TEF machine.
Thanks for the link Tom .......
