"Maybe it's just me but there seems to be more and better recordings than ever before. (Granted I'm a classical listener almost exclusively.)"
I totally disagree.... I think there are more and more awful recordings than ever before.... (And that includes classical.)
BUT.....
Can you provide a few recommendations? Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks.
Follow Ups:
... Possibly the overall best recording in my library is:
Mahler: Symphony No.1 by Michael Tilson Thomas & the San Francisco Symphony , hybrid SACD
I usually listen to the CD layer ripped to ALAC.
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich
Thanks for the suggestion.... But the recording was originally released about 15 years ago..........This was still before CD was about to be mangled with 24/192 mastering......

Have you compared these with non-24/192 recordings that are truly comparable, e.g. made in the same place at the same time by the same engineers?
I've been given to believe, (so it might not be true), that DXD is increasingly being used for initial recording as well as for editing, which (as I'm told) is actually 24 bit/352.8 kHz, (= 8x 44.1 kHz).
I love the music of Dmitri Shostakovich
I too love the Tilson-Thomas Mahler cycle....I have it (them) on SACD, but bought it before the LP was available.
