I believe that both charge 3%. Yes it is normal to charge either directly or indirectly by increase cost.

I have been charged as much as 14% for an eBay transaction plus Paypal. However I got so much more for the item on eBay compared to anywhere else it is worth it. The fees last month were 7.32 for two things that were about $73 dollars PLUS there were PayPal fees. Look at the invoice data and how they make it impossible to see the fees on each transaction and just send a summary

Where else could I sell dead tubes for display? They're worth absolutely nothing to me.
I've received thousand$ for items I that I don't care what I get for them. I paid pennies for them....and then kept the best for free.
Where else can that be done?
I use 20% overall fees in my calculations. 20% doesn't bother me at all.

I just got $519 for a dead non working Yaesu FT-950 more than double I could get from the ham sites like QRZ,QST,eHam. More than covers the fees. I'll be listing some Telefunken tubes there soon.

you are one of their power sellers or have an eBay store, in which case you get discounts, but I don't think the eBay fee ever gets as low as 3%. Having sold a number of things on eBay it can get expensive. 10% of final selling price, as well as 10% of the shipping charges, plus the 3% Paypal fee.
There is no such thing as "standard Ebay fees" as they vary from location to location.
On Ebay France, for example, it's 7,5% below 1000 euros, and a fixed 75 euros above. So if you sold something for 2500 euros for example, you would pay a 75 euros fee, i.e 3%.
On Ebay UK it's 10% with a maximum of £250.
I appologize for not considering eBay UK and eBay France. I'm also not certain of the fees charged on eBay Russia or eBay Australia either because I have never sold anything on them.
Anybody know about eBay China fees?
Apologies accepted.
which is why I only sell those certain things there that will easily overcome the higher fees with a much higher selling price than anywhere else.

10% is cheap for an auction house (usually around here they take 10% of the seller and 15-20% from the buyer) which is what ebay essentially is and 3% is the normal credit card fee.
It is usually not legal to charge either to the buyer but you can insist on a 3% rebate if you are paying cash.
This may vary from country to country although I suspect that if you charge the buyer the 10% ebay takes you might be in breach of contract. Clarification should be somewhere in the small print.
eBay + PayPal fees cost the seller between 13% and 14%.

becoming independent business', you can expect seller costs to go up.
Why else would they do that?
And I don't need or want any long winded, legalbabble answers to that
rhetorical question, the parties involved provide THAT on their sites.*

If you sell with any regularity, eBay will send you promotional offers on free listings.
However, things like subtitle, bold title, picture gallery, listing in more than one category, and eBay UK listings all add up, especially if your first listing does not sell and you re-list and incur those charges again.
That said, I have about 100 eBay sales behind me and I have never tried to get back eBay and PayPal fees, they are part of the cost of doing business. And I have 100% positive feedback on both my accounts. My attitude is that sellers who are all "Me! Me! Me!" create barriers to trust and keep their final prices lower.
I sold a Jeff Rowland preamp for a friend; I was hoping for about $1800 and it went for over $3000 because it was in very nice shape and a bit rare, and most of all the transaction was very straightforward.
FWIW & YMMV.
