I guess you can quibble about which is considered "class A" (by whose definition?), but all these companies make excellent pre's without outboard power supplies.CJ
Vacuum State
Shindo
Allnic
Nagra
Aesthetix
BAT
Wavac
Nat
Kondo
Audionote
ARC
Herron
Zesto
Tron
Accustic Arts
Sim
Burmester
Esoteric
Classe
Ayre
Luxman

I would bet that all the above would benefit to at least some degree from a better power supply. Power supplies are not sexy and they don't make conventional specs better at all. They do sound better. But power supplies are very expensive. The two most costly parts of a device are the power supply and chassis. And if the power supply isn't expensive the amplification is certainly sub standard.
You've inspected the power supplies of the pre's from all of the companies I mentioned and found them wanting? Surely you haven't heard them all, so your comment is theoretical at best. I'd guess the manufacturers I listed employ more than adequate power supplies.

Don't most pre-amps have single-ended sections. At least, in the tube world? How can you have anything but Class "A" topology?
Doesn't Class AB or B imply push-pull?

Or maybe, idle dissipation +90% of max. Versus 50-75%?
