He passed away this morning.
Follow Ups:
For decades I've had the Contemporary LP, "Something Else!!!!/The Music of Ornette Coleman," and while i've always been reasonably adventurous in terms of jazz listening, Ornette was always beyond the pale as far as I was concerned. Without ever listening to his music.
So after learning of his death I dug out this 1958 record and, surprise, it's terrific.
Lotta good that did Ornette.
RIP
He was certainly "out of the box" in his approach to Jazz music.
One of my fave Jazz artist(s). R.I.P.
KCSM's Elisa Clancey says Ornette Coleman was all about possibilities! R.I.P. Ornette Coleman
All possibilities and an outstanding body of work.

Where people had paid to see inside,
For entertainment they watch his body twist
Behind his eyes he says, 'I still exist.'"
