I am taking a lunch break and thought I'd show this Audio Pro powered speaker repair I did. The treble knob and shaft were broken off before my customer got it.
It broke off right where it came through the metal case. I didn't have anything close for a pot and the customer wanted it back quick so I repaired it.
It is a black plastic pot shaft. Of course it is not a clean break, it left a non-flat surface. So I found a similar shaft, same diameter from an old tube clock radio in the basement and a knob. Sure the knob is a little silly, non matching but it is the back of the unit and won't be seen. Again he wanted it back ASAP.
The plan was to drill a 1/16th" diameter hole in both the remaining stub on the unit and in the shaft I cut off to add on to the stub. Then I cut about a half inch long power resistor lead. The lead will reinforce the JB Weld joint as well as hold it in place while the JB hardens.
It was pretty easy to drill the hole in the shaft addition I cut to size with a Dremel as it was a perfect flat cut. The remaining stub did not stick out through the hole in the metal case to allow me to cut that flat.
Trying to start the bit on the remaining stub was tough so I just heated the bit up hot with a Bic lighter to create a pilot hole. Once drilled I put JB Weld on each half and waited a couple of minutes then joined the two together and layed it upright so it can dry.
I'm sure some of you here have had to do a similar repair, I just thought I'd share how I did this one.

I love it- good ol' ingenuity using what's available to accomplish the task. Heck of a job my friend. Dave
Everyone thinks I'm strange except my friends deep inside the earth
Sounds like you did the best you could with the timeframe and materials available. As long as the owner doesn't stress the shaft by constantly adjusting the pot, that fix will probably last the life of the unit.
Job well done, laddie!!
