Hi, it's been a while since I've visited this site. I felt like posting something today, because I just concluded a very satisfactory repair experience with the guys at Virtue Audio, and they deserve some public praise...
A few years ago, I purchased a used Virtue Audio Piano M1 CD player/transport, so I was not even the original owner. This player sounds great through both its internal DAC and via an external DAC (and, as I've mentioned before, used as transport through the external DAC, it sounds better than my computer setup through the same DAC (which sounds quite good in its own right).
A little while ago, it stopped recognizing CDs. Unfortunately, this item has been discontinued for some time now (I hope they can bring it back someday -- I don't know all the details of its discontinuance), so I was a bit worried. Even though I was not an "original customer", having purchased my Piano M1 used, the guys at Virtue have always been happy to help in any way, so I contacted Seth, and he referred me to Jason Terpstra, his "tech" guy at the company.
Jason insisted upon doing the repair for nothing. He did it, it's back and working like new again, and even that wasn't the end of his generosity. They're still making cables (among a few other things), so since I needed another pair of interconnect cables, I'm going to try one of theirs.
I don't know all the circumstances surrounding their sudden downsizing a couple years ago (just as the sequel to the Piano M1, the "M2" was in the works -- which then became one of the discontinued items), but my guess is that their popularity grew faster than the small company's ability to expand their capacity, so they had to scale back a bit (at least for the moment, I guess). Again, this is just speculation on my part -- I don't really know.
They do still have some products at their site (one integrated amp, some speakers, cables, power supplies, various parts, etc.), and though I'm only familiar with the CD player I have, I wouldn't be at all surprised if these currently available products are of great quality and value as well.
Considering the good experience I've always had with the guys (and gals!) at Virtue Audio, I'm hoping they can keep going, and eventually become the more "full-fledged" company they seemed to have had in mind when they got started. Continued support for them now may be helpful in this endeavor, so if you're in the market for the types of things they're currently offering, I encourage you to give them a try.
Okay, now I'll go away again. :)
Follow Ups:
Have one of their Tripath TWO amps in the system this weekend. Little over-achiever it is too with some very enjoyable sounds. Glad to hear you had good news.

Please hang around. Good to see you post.
See ya. Dave
