I have to admit that I look at the price before I read the review. At a certain point, I'm just not interested anymore. Everyone has a budget and I have no problem with people that want to spend big money but anything that costs more than a condo is just not on my want list.
Updated with the Versa turntable and Sony/Accuphase CD systems. But removed Mark Levinson DAC.
Linn CD12 at $ 20,000 in 1999 came to my mind first.
The Wavac mono block - $350,000And, of course, the Audio Note AN-E Sogon 2-way at $165,000. Pic not included, because all the AN-E speakers basically look the same anyway.

I considered the Wavac - but thought (readers) would see it as a joke. Then, by 2004 (the year of the review) we were already *in* the extreme-price era.I didn't think the Audio Note (for 165K) was reviewed - but again, it comes after the 70-90K reviews.
All 7 of these (inc. Wavac), were published in Stereophile. 4 of them by Michael Fremer...

Did anyone review the million dollar Kharma's?
1998/99 Ongaku $89,000
The AN E Sogon is now selling at $208,000.
There was a recent reivew of their top CD player rig by Martin Colloms formerly Stereophile which is 192,000 GBP which is probably considerably higher than the next CD player I am sure given that it only does CD.
J-
being a "cable" guy, if you will, I see more and more companies charging $10K + for all cables/power cords. It seems to be more trendy, rather than
customer-friendly.
ITS NOT TRENDY, IT GREED.
The market will provide what us fools choose to buy. Greed only comes into play when we have no choice but to buy. I could get up on my soapbox and give an example, but don't need the responses.
The few times I listened to the Levinson 30 DAC, I was not impressed......
I clearly remember reading Fremer's review way back when and my mouth dropping at the price tag. It's all so perfectly goddamn ridiculous that I find such things strangely intriguing. I love reading the reviews of these crazy things.

Especially when the unit under review catches fire or blows up on the test bench and the reviewer still says its reliable and one of the great bargains in audio at $30,000.

Sam - thanks for the laugh...
Audiojewelry. For that kind of dough I'd rather have a used Porsche.
