I couldn't get over the name for the little chip amp named - Topping :/
Also, the name "Emotiva" ...
Even "Pono" is stupid name. PONO???
It doesn't stop there - the latest Stereophile is reviewing integrated
amp with the name "SPROUT"
Is it really hard to come up with the (decent) name?

Follow Ups:
My devious mind somehow subconsciously takes the name as a "typo", and is a device intended for adults only......
even though I never really listened to any.

yep. I went with a Chinese company instead. Balls.
See linked article. The Sparkomatic name just evokes low-end car radios from the days of yore, and puts off "yupscale" consumers.
...for those who don't remember - "April" spelled backwards for April Fool joke product reviews in Audio Magazine.
If I'm not mistaken, Lirpa goes back to the days of Popular Electronics magazine.
I thought it was Audio magazine. Lirpa, April spelled backwards.
I was almost suckered into buying the company's Infrared Wireless Power Cord......
or implying the supernatural in the product name or the advertizing. There ain't none.

When I see that name I know it will be too old.
Not that I would buy them in any case, but, "Magico"? Seriously? Sounds like something they'd sell at WalMart.:)

Got married in Japan in '74 while in the USAF, my fiance's favorite liquor was "Calpis", a fermented dairy product. I showed restraint. To lighten her coffee, she used the very popular "Creapo". That was very hard to explain (my reaction).

Looking at their website today, things are slightly better name-wise.

. . . as long as the accent is on the second syllable - eMOtiva. But I do hate it when folks pronounce it EmoTEEva. Come to think of it though, I don't really know which is correct. ;-)
(BTW, I agree with you about PONO.)
I like their "Control Freak" which is nothing more than a rather large and heavy weight volume knob. I use it to control volume on my powered Emotiva PC speakers. Look for it on their Pro line of products.
Either way Emotiva sounds pretentious to me.
PONO looks like a spelling mistake. Attracts a lot of attention.
Cheers
Bill
I believe the latter is correct after listening to a Podcast with company owners and/or managers. I'm totally with you on the pronunciation preference, even if wrong.

When I was younger, I went to someone's home to buy some Janszen speakers........ They turned out to be "Jansson" speakers............
Later found out the product was a knockoff from a defunct store chain that advertised selling "famous maker" products.

Fulla Schiit. Great stuff.
It's a USB Dongle DAC/amp.
I am going to buy it just because they have what is a rarity in audio - humor.
Their site is a riot !
I went out and bought it as soon as I saw the name!

Seems GOOD to me...
I've never heard their gear but I like what I see and read, their philosophy, their engineering experience, their production et. al. From every angle they appear to have priorities that I respect and would like to support.
However I buy very little these days but they will be the first place I'll look if in the market for something. I want my fidelity high and my bling low.

How about "Juicy",(or is it Juicy Audio?)
Either case, it's the (now defunct)name of the company that the guy that made my Paragon 12A preamp started.
Now if I could just get him, (or anyone, for that matter), send me a schematic, or anything about it.)
Proudly serving content-free posts since 1984.
It was Juicy Music. Actually a highly regarded pre amp

Ironically, Coconut was based in one of those frozen nordic countries. Now defunct, if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe that wacko with the company sold one of those million dollar cords and retired.

I was talking about the company.
The country might be next in line - if Coconut Audio was any indication of the mentality of the residents there.
Note the linked thread for a rather extreme example.
All of the Bottlehead products are just silly.Cocktail Audio. Seriously? That's the best they came up with?
Audeze headphones. I don't care how good they are; the name is stupid and it makes me angry just looking at it. Irrational..? Yeah...but I am who I am.
Oh and I can never buy a Kia car, because everytime I see 'KIA' I read "Killed In Action".

Yes, I've read stories about that naming but no idea if true or not.

Not that I could ever afford such Linn's "Klimax" series of stuff.
I'm sure the stuff sounds good, but the name just doesn't make me "want it".
As with all things audio, YMMV...
